LocationThe Metanoia Farm is located on the outskirts of the Assiniboine Forest, part of on Treaty 1, the traditional land of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. Our pressurized water is supplied from Shoal Lake on Treaty 3 land.
Within a colonial framework, the land on which the Metanoia Farm is owned by Canadian Mennonite University, and has been leased to the Metanoia Farmers through a MOU since 2011. Find us just east of 500 Shaftesbury Boulevard. |
Growing SpaceThe Farm consists of one acre of space. Within this space, we have we have divided the cultivated space into into eleven 40'x50' fields, which are further separated into 4'x40' beds. We rotate some tarps as a method of organic, passive weed suppression. In a given season, approximately 14 000 sq feet is in production. This relatively small production area allows us to pay close attention to each square foot of growth!
Community Growers with a Land Share have access to between 100 and 320 sq feet of growing space. |
InfrastructureThe farm’s skyline has grown over the years. Around the farm there is a 10 foot wildlife fence that protects our vegetables and space from our ruminant and coyote friends.
In the centre area of the farm there is a gathering space that offers shade and space for personal storage, a shed for collective tool storage, and a washing station that is convenient to wash roots and other harvest so you don’t take home too much dirt! Our chicken coop is located in the south-east corner of the farm, adding an artistic flare with its pink heat chimney shaped like a grain elevator! |
AccessibilityMany factors impact farming capacity for each of us, including summer plans, physical abilities, social energy, and many other things. While the farm team and the farm space also have limitations on what we can offer, we are always open to conversation about how we can shift our structure and expectations to make participation work for you.
